Veteran golfers lead the way

OUTSTANDING winter weather greeted all starters for last weekend’s two major men’s tournaments held at the Bega Country Club.

The Chester and Smith Monthly Medal on Saturday was won by the ever improving Gerry Tarlinton (67 nett).

The A grade winner for the day was consistent veteran Len Brown, who shot a solid 68 nett.

B grade was taken out by Club vice-president Bruce Dunlevie, who scored a fine 68 nett.

NTPs went to M. Peterson, L. Brown, N. Maxworthy, B. Taylor and B. Dunlevie.

The Men’s 27-hole Foursomes Championships was played on Sunday in cool conditions.

The alternative shot format provided an intense battle, with eventual champions Derek van Bracht and Rob Whitford holding on to victory (120).

The pair finished a stroke ahead of father and son combination Gerard and Mark Hergenhan, with Leon Blacker and Paul Welsford (122) finishing third.

The club wishes to thank all who took part and made it an enjoyable day out.

The much anticipated Captain v President 4BBB is being held at the club tomorrow.

Captain Edmonds holds a fine record in this event and is undefeated for the past five years.

However, President Roberts is reportedly confident that his team can cause an upset.

Members are reminded that the second round of the Parbery Pastoral Match Play will be held on Saturday July 19, the Holden Scramble on Sunday July 27 and the Mallacoota Challenge on Saturday August 2.
