BEGA horse rider Sallie Slater has taken out first prize in the Show Horse Council’s Hack and Riding Spectacular event held earlier this month.
The national event was held at the indoor arena of the Sydney International Equestrian Centre at Horsley Park in Sydney, running over two days.
“This event was pretty special because we hadn’t been anywhere for 12 months due to the equine influenza outbreak,” Ms Slater said.
Sallie took out the event on her horse Talarook Country Lane, with the win qualifying them to compete in the Grand National Show in April next year.
To cap off the achievement, Sallie was declared one of the top five riders of the year in the over 21-years rider category.
The local area received further recognition with fellow Bega competitor Georgia Kennedy also competing at the Spectacular with her horse Roseagle Sea Rover.
Georgia was declared one of the top five riders of the year in the 15-17 years category and was declared one of the top five riders of the year in the 15-17 years rider category.
