THE Tathra Sea Eagles side will look to continue their strong form this weekend when they travel to Eden in Round 9 of the SCAFL season.
The match is to be played at the Eden Football Ground tomorrow at 2.10 pm, with Tathra entering the encounter as clear favourites for the punters, despite being on the road this week.
Eden currently sits at the foot of the SCAFL senior ladder, having failed to notch up a victory all year.
Tathra sit in third position on the ladder with four wins for the year, with the side bouncing back strongly after an indifferent start to the 2008 season.
Despite Eden having a disappointing year, Tathra President Kevin May is aware of their dangerous ability to snare upsets.
“They gave us a real shake the last time we met so it’s fair to say that we have some respect for Eden,” May said.
“Leigh (Manning) has been reminding the boys that that this is the business end of the season so they have to be switched on.”
Round 8 could not have been more of a contrast for the two clubs, with the Sea Eagles running riot over a depleted Diggers outfit, while the Whalers were slaughtered at home by the Narooma Lions
Brad McBain was the star for Tathra last week in a dominant performance in the forward line, nailing nine goals.
Coming from the Canberra AFL competition, McBain has proven to be a revelation for the senior side, kicking 15 goals and being among the votes for best on ground nearly every week.
Key midfielder Luke Mundy showed his true class around the ground in the victory over the Diggers.
Ryan and Troy O’Loghlin continue to crumb terrifically to the side’s big forward, opening up numerous scoring opportunities for Tathra.
The Sea Eagles will be aware of the prospect of Eden’s young gun Jake King being selected.
King was recently rewarded for his rapid improvement with an AFL scholarship with the West Coast Eagles.
Spectators will hope to see King match up on Tathra’s star teenager Matt May, who received a scholarship of his own with the Sydney Swans earlier this year.
The battle could be decided at one end of the ground, where Tathra’s backline has struggled to contain opposition forwards at various times this year.
Eden has had massive difficulty in posting a decent score all season, which is reflected by the fact that none of their players have kicked a bag of goals.
Whoever takes the ascendancy in this area could take control of the match.
“We’re a sniff away from the top two teams on the ladder so the boys are fired up to win,” May said.
TIP: Sea Eagles by
68 points.
