THE Bega Roosters first grade side’s season is on the line when they take on Moruya Sharks at home in round 13 of the Group 16 rugby league competition.
The match is set to kick-off at 1pm on Sunday at the Bega Recreation Ground, with Bega entering as severe underdogs.
According to coach, Mitch Creary, his team needs to “lift a notch” for the contest.
“We really need the whole team to have a dig this week if we’re going to win,” he said.
“It really is a do-or-die situation for us and if we don’t win we can kiss our season goodbye.”
The Sharks have had a consistent season and sit in third position on the ladder.
The side hasn’t dropped a match since round four, a streak which has included a 72-point thrashing of Merimbula.
“I rate the Moruya side very highly,” Creary said.
“I honestly reckon that they could be the dark horse of this competition.”
The Roosters will again look to Kale and Dane Burton to lead their forward pack in the vital clash.
The brothers have both had good seasons and have received consistent support from “Scrubber” Jessop and Brendan Kidd.
Bega’s offensive opportunities have been set up in majority by centre Deon Apps and young five-eight Dale Finucane.
Finucane in particular has impressed in his debut season in the top grade.
The last time these sides met was in round five when Moruya came out on top in a thriller over the Roosters, 35-28.
The Roosters will be looking for revenge at home this weekend, with the match promising to be an exciting encounter.
“We’ve had a light training session this week to keep the boys mentally prepared,” Creary said.
“We’re pretty much at full-strength for this match so there are no excuses.”
A win this Sunday would put the side just one point outside the top four.
TIP: Roosters by 4 points.
