WITH the last round to be played this weekend, the semi-final spots in the Bega Tennis competition look to have been secured in A and B grade.
In A grade action from the weekend, the Merimbula Whales suffered an eight sets to three, defeated at the hands of a rampaging Bega Roosters outfit.
Roosters number two Paul Batten and his son Nathan dominated the contest, each winning four sets of their matches.
The Tigers defeated Pambula in a thriller to come out on top by a single game, 50-49.
The highlight of the contest was the doubles combination of Anderson/Wilkinson defeating Bertalla/Gravenstein in a tie breaker.
The third A grade match was also a tight affair with old rivals Dennis Love and John Rhienberger facing up against one another.
Rhienberger’s Magpies emerged triumphant, with a 54 games to 48 win over the Panthers.
B grade saw one close match and two thrashings occurring, with many reserves again being called upon.
The Stingrays v Surfers match had three tie breakers to start the day and finished up with a 41-35 win for the Stingrays.
Marcello Franchi again dominated in the win for the Marlins over the Bega Blues, 43-23.
The Blues shot out of the blocks to win the first two sets, before the Marlins fought back strongly to take out the next six sets.
Jim Schmidt and Craig Chauvier starred for the Bega Reds to set up a lopsided 43-25 victory over the Tathra Fishers.

A meeting was held after play on Saturday and decisions were reached in regard to the next competition.
The competition will run for two rounds, beginning on August 9.
A grade will have teams of four players nominated by the clubs.
Due to a range of uneven B grade contests, it was decided to have an all-in comp with two nominated representative sides to be selected for Merimbula, Bega and Tathra.
Players wishing to nominate should contact their clubs asap, as there is a long break between now and the next competition.
