THE first round of the 2008 Sapphire Coast Runners’ Cross Country Series was held in warm sunny conditions last Saturday (May 10).
Sportspower Bega have again offered to sponsor the series, continuing a long association between the Sapphire Coast Runners and the Far South Coast's leading sporting goods retailer.
The first runner across the line was Matt Brown, followed by Jacqui Rumble and Nick Townsin, all newcomers to the series in 2008.
The top three were followed in by three members of the Sapphire Coast Runners training squad; Andrew Law, and sisters Grace and Ellen Harvey.
The fastest 3km runners on the day were Anna Fergusson (14.07) and Keith Law (11.29), proving that the young and young at heart can both run well if they apply themselves.
The quickest 4km runners in round one were Grace Harvey (16.55) and Andrew Law (14.20), who are both in excellent form early in the season.
Round two will be held on Saturday, May 24, at the Bega Athletics Field, meeting at 10am for a 10.30am start.
It is not too late to join the series. There are six rounds remaining, the top five of which count towards the end of season pointscore.
You do not have to be either a member of the Sapphire Coast Runners squad or a serious runner to join the series and all races are handicapped.
