Think you can coach?

A SHORT coaching course for junior cricket coaches will be held at the Bega Cricket nets at the George Griffin Oval on Tuesday.

The session will commence at 5.30pm and run until 7pm.

Level two coach John Dedman is running the free course which aims to help junior coaches and interested parents make cricket training fun and full of variety while developing relevant skills.

If you would like to attend, contact Dedman on 6492 2937 so appropriate copies of course material can be prepared or just turn up on the day.

In other junior cricket news, the semi-final of the Southern Zone inter-district competition will be contested on Sunday.

For only the second time in history, the Far South Coast has all three teams in the semi-finals.

Two matches will be played in Bega, with the under 12s taking on South Coast at the Bega Athletics Field while the under 14s are up against Crookwell at the George Griffin Oval.

The Valley Field has been reserved in case of wet weather.

In the final match, the under 16s will travel to Shoalhaven.

For more information, contact FSCCA secretary John Reynolds on 6491 7798.

In other junior cricket news, cold conditions greeted the Far South Coast (FSC) U/16s in a must win match against South Coast Green at Albion Park on Sunday.

FSC won the toss and sent their opponents into bat with Hayden Nicholls and Joe Billman starting well with the ball.

After 12 overs, South Coast was 1/25.

Luke Unicomb started his spell with a wicket and went on to finish with 2/14 off his five overs and with support from Ben McDonald’s left arm seamers, they were 3/66.

Leg spinner Tom Griffin was introduced before the drinks break, creating several chances which the side couldn’t hold onto including the dangerous “Rutley” who went to make a solid half-century.

Rama Bateman was brought into the attack to support Tom and truly introduced himself to rep cricket by being on a hat-trick, which included three LBWs to leave South Coast at 6/79.

Despite the conditions the boys lifted in the field, creating two run outs and a slick stumping to Andrew Evelyn off Tom’s bowling.

When captain Hayden bowled danger man “Rutley”, they had dismissed their opponents for 105 in the 36th over.

All bowlers performed well and the side was great in the field.

Rama led the attack with 3/8 while Hayden and Luke took two wickets apiece.

FSC had 45 minutes to bat before lunch but openers Andrew Evelyn and Charlie Sheppard took to the attack from ball one.

The pair looked like they knock the runs off before lunch but the rain returned with the score at 0/45 off five overs, with the umpires deciding for an early lunch.

The lunch break did little to slow down the momentum as the openers raced along to 86 off 12 overs.

With the win in sight, Andrew was given out bowled for 29 when the wicketkeeper’s gloves appeared very close to the stumps.

Charlie followed his partner shortly after, hitting a return catch to the bowler for a quick fire 42 off 45 balls.

Brendan Daley (6no) and Jacob Young (10no) were left to knock off the required runs with a towering six over mid on winning the game.

It was a well deserved win for the side in trying conditions and they will now meet Shoalhaven on the road and they will be looking to be on top of their game at the crucial stage.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
