IT WILL be a big day in Bega on Sunday when the Roosters attempt to win three premierships in Group 16 Rugby League Grand Finals.
Both first and reserve grades and under 18s have survived a tumultuous season to head into the season deciders full of confidence.
Supporters are showing their true colours as the day approaches and businesses in Carp Street have decorated their windows in support.
One of the most passionate barrackers in town is 78-year-old John Ahkin, who has been involved with the club as a player and official since the 1940s.
Mr Ahkin played as a nippy five-eighth in his day and says his best memory, in a football life of great memories, was the 1954 season when Bega went through the season undefeated.
Mr Ahkin is a life member of the club and goes to the match each week, helping out in some capacity.
He believes the Roosters are a big chance for three flags on Sunday.
“It’ll be a tough game,” he said.
“It always is against Eden but I reckon we can do it.”
Mr Ahkin says Bega has as much talent as the Tigers and are just as tough, but they could be quicker.
“If we get the ball out wide then I reckon our pace might be a factor,” he said.
There are plenty of supporters in town that might agree with him.
Group 16 president Russell Fitzpatrick is looking forward to the day and is expecting a big crowd.
“We had 3500 last year and should get around the same or bigger this year,” he said.
There will be full catering all day with all of it spread among the different Group 16 clubs.
Gates open at 9am with the under 18 match between Bega and arch-rivals Tathra set to kick-off at 10.30am.
