Help for parents

5/09/2008 10:21:00 AM
THE Far South Coast Family Support Service will be running another series of four parenting workshops specifically for parents of preschool and primary age children.

The workshops will start on September 10 between 10am and noon and will be facilitated by two experienced child and family workers, Els Paijmans and Geoff Bevitt.

The facilitators’ approach to supporting parents around raising children emphasises building loving and enduring relationships that sustain parents and children alike throughout the developmental stages which are at the core of family life.

Over the four weeks the workshops will explore the developmental and emotional needs of young children and how to support them; ideas about building co-operation and discipline; listening and talking to children; working with children’s feelings and managing our own feelings and behaviour as parents.

The early childhood years are a time of rapid change and growth.

It is a critical time during which the child forms habits of learning, behaviour and emotional awareness, influencing their sense of security and social relationships throughout life.

Because so much is gained from talking with other parents, the workshops will include space to share ideas, strategies and experience.

The workshops will run once a week over four weeks at the Family Support Service, Bega St Bega.

All parents with children of the targeted age group are welcome.

There is no charge but bookings are essential.

For more information or bookings phone Family Support on 6492 3411.
