BEGA Police have been kept busy with a range of drink driving, domestic arguments and anti-social behaviour offences.
There has been an increase in alcohol related offences since the warmer weather arrived, a common trend every year, according to police.
Domestic assault
A 43-year-old Bega man has been arrested and charged in relation to a serious domestic assault.
The man, who has been in a de-facto relationship with a 46-year-old Bega woman for six months, has allegedly physically and verbally abused the woman during this period of time.
He was arrested and charged on October 2 for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and is to appear before Bega Local Court today.
According to police the man has a long history of drug abuse.
A police report states police have been called to numerous domestic disturbances at the Bega address over the past month.
However the victim, fearing further assault by the offender, would not make a formal statement.
Police took out an AVO for her protection and attended the victim’s address to serve the AVO on the evening of October 2.
It was stated in a police report that on this occasion they observed the victim had large bruises and cuts to her face, neck and arms, but the woman was again too scared to make a complaint.
Police, fearing for the victim’s welfare, returned to the address a short time later where they remained outside.
It is alleged while outside the residence they could clearly hear the man screaming and threatening the victim.
They immediately arrested the man.
The victim then provided a statement to police about how she received her injuries.
The man was released on strict bail conditions, which he allegedly breached on October 9.
Police received a call to attend a disturbance at the victim’s residence and when spoken to, she admitted the man had been at the premises that night and a verbal argument had occurred after they had consumed alcohol together.
He allegedly made violent threats against the victim before leaving.
Police patrolled the area but were unable to locate the man.
When located he will face charges of breaching an AVO and breaching bail conditions.
